Top class motor sport action will be coming to the very heart of Blackpool in the shape of the forthcoming Legend Fires North West Stages Rally. Set to take place on Saturday February 19th the Mayor of Blackpool will also be there to flag the leading cars away from the Ceremonial start at the Cenotaph, adjacent to the North Pier. No less than 110 rally teams will be tackling the single day event which will include over 80 miles of competitive action at a series of special stages centred on the rally’s Pontin’s Head Quarters in Blackpool.

Please remember you can still sponsor Alan on :-
Although, the ceremonial start will not include any of the high speed action that will take place on the special stages, it will provide an excellent opportunity to view the high-powered cars taking part at close quarters before they head off to tackle the timed sections of the rally. Eight of the rally’s timed stages will be held along part of the famous Blackpool Promenade and at nearby Pontin’s and these sections of the route provide the chance to catch the cars in their full glory as they race against the clock. A full spectator preview including full viewing times and details will be published in the local press during the final week before the rally and will also be available on the rally’s own dedicated web site

Stockport based crew Alan Pemberton & Martin Young (Photo provided) will again be contesting the rally in their unique Audi Quattro after winning a free entry to the 2005 event after being declared the team that had raised the most money in 2004 for the event’s nominated charity – Marie Curie Cancer Care. As the rally heads towards its ninth year it is hoped that the introduction of the new Blackpool based format and improved spectating will further boost the £35,000 already raised by the event.

Another highly important aspect of the rally’s organisation is the dedicated team of track officials and marshals that ensure the smooth and safe running of the event. To help reward the hard working and often unsung heroes of the event, the rally’s Chief Marshals Darren Fox and Neil Moreton have organised a Marshal’s Prize Draw with the help of local and National companies that have donated some fabulous prizes. Amongst these prizes is a flying lesson from Blackpool based Westair Flying School and also the chance of a lifetime to sit alongside 2004 Rally Winner John Stone in his 300 horsepower, four wheel drive MG Metro 6R4 later in the year. The lucky winners will be drawn from the list of Marshals signed on for the event and if you have previous experience as a Marshal there is still time to register now. With Marshals being required for 5 venues in the Lancashire area there’s bound to be one near you. Interested? Then find out more including how to register as a Marshal by logging onto to or contact the rally’s Chief Marshals for details – Darren Fox (Blackpool area) Tel 07766 310114 or Neil Moreton (Preston area) Tel 07803 244852.
