air con light on or off ???

hi, i have a 09 plate a4, when is the air con on, ? when the light is on or off, strange question but its been puzzling me for ages

in my car
when the light is off, the aircon is on,
when the light is on the aircon is off

when at idle, if you press the button and the light goes off or on and the engine should kick up the revsto 1100 rpm or return to 840rpm and you should hear a mechanical clunk this is the aircon clutch engaging

i have no idea why this is, i wondered if someone had pressed the button why it was disconnected, so the switch was in reverse. im yet to unplug and press the button to see if it re-reverses the switch, as it is quite annoying still after owning it for a year.
or its just audis annoying way

The default is climate control on - "econ" turns it off and is shown as active with the light. On mine anyway. And the others I've had. Mike

I've never had a problem with it, but a lot of people find it arse about face!

If it helps, think of it as ECONOMY MODE, when this is ON the a/c is OFF.
