is it possible?

i was just working out how long i was planning on keeping my 20v CQ for. when i get some more money etc. i will probably want something quicker so was trying to work out what options i have with this car as i really like it!

how much work is involved? i couldnt do it myself, but have some mechanic minded friends who might help, or is it very specialist?

how much will it cost approx?

is a supercharger an easier/better option for more power.

it can be done, however its not easy.

Its not recommended you turbo the existing 7A engine, instead transplant a 3B or ABY from an S2. A lot of time and work is needed, and you'd probably be better off just buying an S2. A few American people have successfully put 3B's into 80/90 sedans, only beacause the S2 was not available over there and is basically impossible to import one!

Shocked Hi Tom,
I spoke to Tim Cooper from central VW/Audi last year about the costs involved in this conversion. He seemed to think that this was a relatively simple conversion. He quoted me approx. £800-£900 for labour drive in drive out then on top of that the cost of the engine and box. There is no need to change the struts/hubs to 5-stud S2 and the brakes (should be twin-pots on yours) are the same as early 5-speed S2 anyway. Check out his web-site as he runs a very quick 90 20vq converted to S2 spec and then some.
Regards Gavin

You would be better off with an S2. Think of the insurance problems of a conversion.

I have done swaps like what you are asking. As the others say it is very easy if you know what you are doing. The quickest I have done it to date was 8 hours start to finish in the rain in the guys drive. The price quote sounds ok. But the price of a engine can be a alot more than that.
Again if you have a 20vq the brakes etc are the same as S2 and so is disc size. so no probs there.
At the end of the day buying an S2 is quicker than having all the work done but it is nice to stay with the car you have.
Its up to you
Good luck
