Could it be blocked fuel filter, blocked CAT, EGR valve problem, binding brakes, split boost hoses/intercooler or flat tyres?

The MPG on my AEL auto increased dramatically once the split boost hose was fixed....

hi,thanks for the answer.
fuel filter was changed only a week or so back(it is changed every 6 months or so usually),I had the cat removed a year or so back, egr has been blanked off, tyres are ok.Split hose is a possibility i suppose but the performance hasn't changed and i have had a couple of pipes split in the past and performance loss was significant and i also noticed a lot of black smoke coming out of the back of the car. |

I thought, when I read the thread title, that you were only getting 2.5mpg!
I can't really help with your problem I'm afraid, as I have similar issues, struggleing to get 38mpg out of mine. I'm fairly certain that the pump timing is out though, so that's first on my list to get sorted. |

I had a binding rear brake that caused this along with a pump timing creeping
Check the temperature of your wheels by touching them with your hand and see if any are hotter than the others
Also check the pump timing
I recently y changed my air-filter and gained about 3mpg , it was caked in crap |
