I have one. Keep it in the glove box.
Has not failed to connect to anything I've tried so far.

BUT, it's no substitute for VCDS (Vagcom) as it'll only read and clear codes. Nothing else.
If using on anything pre-OBD-2, you'll need to source a 2x2 lead too.

i bought a cheap kkl lead and 2+2 connector from ebay then downloaded free vcds, works fine on my 80, 1992 , 2.0l 8v . you can do much more than just check codes and clear them for less money than you where looking at.

reading this post and already have a scanner for my 1995 audi 80 tdi but looking to go for the vcds but the cost from usa is almost more than the car worth. I am told that vcds may not work with these early cars so not happy about outlay, and I cannot find where I can download a free vcds that you describe, any help would be appreciated. I already have a connector for the car.
