My 80 currently uses a1992 2.8 AAH engine. Is it possible to replace it with a 1996 2.8 ABC. I have access to a complete car but am not sure how much of the wiring is different. Any help would be appreciated.

So you're trying to swap a 2.8L for a 2.6L? Unless the 2.8L is damaged I don't understand why you'd do that?

Anyway yes it should be fine and pretty easy to do, from what I can figure they're almost identical engines except the 2.8L is just that bit bigger.

I'm guessing the engine mounts/etc are the same, but they may not be so just have that in mind.

Has a lot of information about 2.8L engines which mostly applies to 2.6's but some of it is unknown.

Hope that helps,
-Matt

Hmm thanks for that. The guy who is selling the car has listed it as a 2.8. I did have the sense to ask what the engine code was on the log book and he came back with ABC. I have been looking at different things on the forum this morning and was slowly coming to the conclusion that it is a 2.6.
Confirmation much appreciated. Very Happy

No worries mate! If you have any other questions feel free to ask me or just post again. I've got a 2.6 myself and I do know a little. Smile

Are you sure he doesn't mean 'AFC'? That's a 2.8 but was under the impression that was for the U.S market but may be wrong.
