Hi All,

Having recently done a full restoration on my 91 Quattro 20v Sport I am having some big issues with the ECU side of things. I have increased the compression ratio (due to a problem getting standard size pistons) as well as other improvements and so need to be able to adjust the tuning.

In order to achieve this I got the RIP Chip from 034 Motorsport - which has been a complete disaster end to end. Either way this is not an option any more.

So, as far as I can see, the only other option is to go with something like an Emerald. I have contacted them and they have been very helpful and I think I am going to use there system.

Due to being a 5 cylinder it needs the 3 sensors like the existing ecu - cps, hall, and the dowel one on the flywheel. The trouble I have is that my dizzy is very worn and that contains the hall sensor.

Does anyone know if you can retrospectively fit the cam sensor from an s2 to the 7a? As far as I can see the s2 engine has an extra pickup behind the cam pulley and then the sensor bolted below that on the head?

Thanks in advance for any help with any of this Smile

think you're getting crossed wires.

The S2 with the ABY engine does not have a distributor so the hall sender is located at the front of the engine.

A replacement distributor would be a far easier option

Ok thanks Mikes.

Do you know where I could get my dizzy overhauled or find a new one?

I read somewhere about a "tune can" which was fitted to some of the 5 cylinders which was a dummy dizzy with just a hall sensor in it. Do you know if that would fit the 7a head?

Thanks Smile

It won't be cheap ~200

Eurocarparts are showing them as available as special order. Looks like you need to exchange your old one.

You could try a Bosch agent - ask for 0 237 522 013

Audi dealer or quattro corner may also have one.

Whatever you do, don't buy the cheap aftermarket ones. Probe distributors is where I got one. Absolute junk - no timing mark and the hall sender window was at the wrong position plus it had so much play it was hard to believe it was new.

The "tuna can" was a cam sensor fitted to early AAN engines in the same location as the dizzy, the gears are different though.

How much is Emerald?

VEMS is fairly commonly used on I5 engines, EFI exrpress have done a vems ECU in a stock 7a ecu case for plug and play.

A good second hand dizzy should not be too hard to find.

You could also contact Automark and ask if they can live map your 7A ecu.
