Possibly not then.
A shame as Bladerunners car has some interesting mods on it.
Webasto night heater to warm the engine on a timer.
Not sure why but it has two battery positions. Usual under the rear seat and another in the left side cupboard in the boot.
A battery jump connection accessed from the left front bumper grille.
That’s so far. Not had it in the workshop yet. I’m sure there’s going to be more. |

There’s a blast from the past. John picked me up from the station in that beastie when I bought the saloon version from him. 2.5 tdi 140, had one of his 170 bhp chips on it back then, went like hell for what it was, and used to manage around 58mpg. Was absolutely immaculate, as was the one I bought from him. Always wondered what happened to it as it was too good to waste. He was, typical John, working on a seven speed ‘box for it when I was with him, sadly he passed around a year later so doubt he ever finished it.
Clever guy who loved a challenge, all very sad. |

Wow , superb , will be looking forward to more posts on this , and it’ll give me reason to pop in now and then, John was an amazing guy from reading all his superb threads on here, very sorely missed by so many.

Been working hard on Jon’s car.
Tailgate rewire. He’d done it in the past but it had started to break the wires again.
Changed its exhaust as all the hangers were knackered.
Cam belt and pump service. New aux belt. New radiator.
I sort of have got the pre heater working. It needs a new exhaust pipe. I changed it’s fuel pump. It fires up but only runs for 5 minutes.
Fixed it’s “A” post water leak. Took five days to dry the carpet out with dehumidifier and fan heater.
Fitted a new aerial as someone had removed it.
It still needs front wings taking off and saving from the creeping rust. Bonnet too. I’ll get on that in the summer when I’m using my S6.
More lives than a cat this car!!! |

So. Took it for a short drive.
All ok. Needs a few bushes at the front. It’s very stiff. I since stripped a strut. It has KONI adjustables. I like it. I can see how Jon corrected the camber after lowering it 3.5 inches. He cut the strut above where the wheel bearing is got it where he needed it and welded it back together. |

Where are you located GT500? There are a few mods on this car I'd love to see as they are ones I'm considering on mine, especially the jump start points and the webasto heater/second battery. I believe he also did a mod to the glow plug system which I'm seriously considering doing. |

Not far from you.
I live in Boroughbridge and my workshop is just the other side of Otley.
I have had a look at what Jon did for the glow plugs. Works a treat.
It’s bloody fighting me though. I set off for MOT and half way there is a good round a bout. I went at warp speed as I usually do and on exiting had no drive.
Sad face. Sat at road side. O/s drive shaft popped out of the cv joint. Boo. So it must be down to drive shaft angle with the 3.5 drop in ride hight. Old bushes not helping so changed bottom arms for new ones and shimmed the engine and gearbox up to help. Try again tomorrow.
Poor S6 covered in salt in mean time. |

All up and operational. Done nearly 1000 miles in it. Going well. It is bloody stiff. Too stiff. No body roll so no weight transfer. It hops sideways. Needs some slightly taller softer springs. |

The A post leak is from the seam sealer either shrinking or it loosing grip as the body flexes. They leak right in the corner of the wing and bonnet. By the the hinge. I’ll take some pics of the problem area later on when I get its wings and bonnet off for repaint.
It’s going well. Found the maf was a bit tired so instead of removing the lid and retensioning the spring I popped a good spare I had on. Found a vacuum pipe leaking too. 48 mpg now. Still hate the springs. Looks great. Day to day it’s not good. Bouncing along. |

Hi Everyone!
I've not been on here for years, but this is brilliant news
I'm so glad it lives on! I'm sure Jon would be chuffed. When I first took my rusty A6 Quattro to Jon's workshop his A6 looked like it was brand new and looked and drove like a completely different car to mine!
After Jon died I bought the car after it had a short owernship with someone else who wasn't a fan of these cars and I bought it at a drop of hat without even seeing it. I had it for a year, but unfortunately at the time it just wasn't right for me. It was way, way too low and ate the (expensive!) front tyres by wearing on the insides within a few thousand miles. It also had rough start at the time which I never got to the bottom of. Other than that it was flipping brilliant!
I now have a T4 Caravelle (2.5 tdi) which has been awesome for the last 5 yeas for family camping holidays, but I still wish I'd never sold either of my C4 A6s, particularly Jon's. (Though I still love the T4 .
Please keep us updated with progress, would love to hear that you've got her running how you wish and she still lives on.

Hi Rob,
Good to hear a bit more of what happened to it after Jon.
It didn’t take much to get it running right. It had an air leak through a T piece that assume Jon had a boost gauge into. It’s doing 50.4 mpg now. Fast too.
I finally changed the front springs! What a difference. It’s like turning a headache off. So much nicer to drive.
Different set of wheels too. |

Nice wheels. Back still looks low..... though rake not as extreme as this.....

I had a pair of eibach s6 v8 springs doing nothing so figured I’d fit them and introduce the oxy acetylene to the lower part of the spring to collapse it an inch.
Just so nice not to be bouncing along!! |
