Northern Ireland's motoring journalists have voted the Audi S4 quattro their overall winner in the province's Car of the Year Awards 2004, sponsored by petrol retailer Maxol. At a ceremony held in Belfast on Friday the 12th of November, the S4 quattro received both the overall award and the top honour in the Best Sporting Car category. Powered by the exceptionally compact V8 petrol engine delivering 344PS, and available with either six-speed manual or six-speed tiptronic transmission, the S4 quattro saloon is capable of a 5.6-second 0-62mph time and a governed top speed of 155mph.
In its latest form, complete with transformed body design, interior upgrades and further improved dynamics, it costs £36,975 OTR or £38,125 as an Avant. The new 2005 S4 quattro is available to order now for first deliveries in February 2005.
To sum up the rationale behind this important win for the S4 quattro, Chairman of the Ulster Motoring Writers Association Jim McCauley said: "This top model from the A4 range represents all that the Audi brand stands for, not only in terms of performance from their wide range of petrol and diesel engines but also the fact that no other company offers such a wide choice of four-wheel-drives. Combined with a range of gearbox options and sophisticated secondary safety measures, the Audi S4 represents the ultimate in current automotive technology."
Director of Audi UK Kevin Rose added: "We are obviously delighted that the S4 has triumphed here in the face of such stiff competition both in the sports saloon arena and beyond. We are particularly pleased to receive these honours based on the attributes of the outgoing S4 quattro, many of which have been improved upon in the latest 2005 model."
