Guys, does anyone have VAG special tool 3256 to lock up the crank to do a timing belt on an S4?

Well I also have to admit the first time I replaced an ECU in an 80 was in my own last year. It was also a Hella, and they do seem to go down occasionally.

Meant to say it will connect to vagcom with standard cable but wouldn't talk to engine module, only the abs brakes module so wiring must be intact.

You have classic symptoms of a faulty coolant temperature sensor, but you need a diagnostic to be sure.

You have one of two faults. Either your hydraulic brake pump or the pressure reservoir, (bomb) is failing. This causes vibration through the pedal due to intermittent pulses of pressure.
