I admire anyone who takes on this kind of project.

Are you altering the windscreen rake or is it being left as it is ?

i know nothing of whats involved in these conversions so excuse my ignorance but why is the chop so complicated around the rear arch ?? as i understood it the chop was just behind the door pillar , about 18" removed or what ever it was and it didn't encroach into the wheel arch ??

just wondering Twisted Evil

out of interest has anyone ever done the sport quattro thing to an S2 ?? would love to see some pics of a shorty S2

looking over the pics again i'm really quite confused now ..

why 2 S2 doners ?? surely just one for an engine and running gear

why the 2 door saloon ?? surely you want a normal quattro coupe shell ?

shorten the quattro shell behind the pillar then add the s2 running gear

enlighten me d'oh!

Doesn't the 90 have the same screen rake as the 80 and the shorty?
Looks the correct angle.

Brave man to take on such a huge job.
Good luck and keep the thread updated.

Jas.

Ok then.... The first S2 was purchased as a donor but was then used to raise funds for the rest of the project. Bought it for £x and sold all the parts for £xxxx. This was then enough to buy the accident damaged S2 Coupe, the Coupe quattro and the Audi 80 2 Door.

So the S2 will be used for the running gear

The Audi 80 2 Door has a different windscreen rake which is identical to the original Sport quattro, also the 80 was left hand drive to keep the originality of the Sport quattro look alike.

The Coupe Quattro is required for the the quattro back end.

The shortening of the body is behind the door pillars and has roughly a foot removed.

I aim to make it look as close to the original as I can so that when I am at the track days and people come over to have a look they have to scratch their head a few times before they decide that it is a replica.... lol

Little confused here. You are saying above you bought an 80 two door, but your pictures on facebook say a 90?
I'm not that clued up on the older models, but the pics look like a 90?
Typos??

I believe that the 80 and 90 are in fact the same thing. The identifying models are also known as Type 81 (Typ81) or a Type 85 (Typ85).

If you take a look at the last pic added I have cut and pasted a few cars together so you can see the difference in the windscreen rake.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=443193&l=426ce&id=575958519

The reason being is the rally drivers complained about the amount of glare in the coupe quattro so when they built the S1 and Sport quattro they made the window steeper to combat this.

Notice also the rear 'C' Pillar is of a different width and angle.

I've got no problem with you cutting up cars. You paid for them and you can do what you want with them!!!

Aren't the 2-door 80/90 doors the exact fit for an upright screen shorty too? Saves you chopping your window frames about and fitting perspex windows.

Good effort that man.

Super project, and I'm wondering what value it might have. I'm sure this one of the last reasons you'd have for doing it, but looking at your attention to detail I can't believe it will be anything but superb when done, so it surely would have a good value considering what real ones cost / are worth..

Would be really interested it taking a gander at some point, might even be able to assist, (have a motorsport background), and I'm only a stones throw away in Holmewood Cool

Just a little update.

I am still waiting for the Kevlar roof from Germany, I am still waiting for the coilover setup to land. I am still waiting for the 034 Efi Tubular exman to land. So I am twiddling my thumbs a wee bit. I have cut the lip off the front subframe and welded it back together so that I have some more space for a massive downpipe... I have fully seem welded both subframes ready for powdercoat. The block has been machined out to 83mm bore. It has been acid dipped, acid etched and painted black.
I have borrowed a pair of original sport quattro steel sills to copy.

Well after much hunting on the net and the photo's supplied on the last post. I have made the decision to start and weld the seat box back into position. I have measured so many times I am getting dizzy, so have just decided to bite the bullet and begin.

This is where I am rewelding the seat box in. Once cleaned up and painted it will look similar to what the stock one would look like.

One side is welded here and one side is just placed in position to get an idea.

A shot of where I have fitted the seat in and moved it to it's fully back position

The join to the B Pillar

Once all the welding has been finished and I have fitted the full roll cage. I have been looking at the following company.

http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/

it looks like a massive time saver. It is expensive around £1400 for the full treatment. But I have been told the job they do is amazing.

It's a sure fire way of getting the insides of the cills coated and protected and it will show up any bits I have missed and need to get sorted before

Surprised you didn't take the opportunity to fit a battery box under the rear seat or are you moving the battery to the boot ?
