hi
i am looking at buying a audi 100 1994 2.5 tdi
it has 6 gears well the 6th gear is marked E,what i was wondering is are only the 130 or 140 bhp ones 6 speed?
from what i read the 115bhp ones are 5 speed and the 6 speed is 130 or 140 bhp. is that correct? |

you have pretty much answered your own question.
Not sure where you got 130bhp from, I only new they came as 115 or 140bhp.
Not sure the 100 got the 140bhp I would think that was only available in the A6. Again I stand to be corrected.
Im sure you could get the 100 with 6 speed but as you have stated it was labelled as an E for economy |

I believe my dad's 100 was 115bhp, definately a 6 speed. My understanding was the rebadging to "A6" included a power increase to 130/140bhp region |

a6s came is 115 and 140,the 140s were usually 6 speed but there are a few 5 speeds around
I understand the top gear in either box is the same though

I was under the assumption that the six speed was geared taller in 6th for lower revs on the motorway..? |

Nice thought, but Bladerunner (RIP) told me my quattro's 6th gear was lower than the 5th gear on a standard one.
Doesn't make much sense to me - with this much torque, why would you need a close ratio box and a low top gear? |

I know on a S2 the 5th gear is taller than the 6th on a 6 speed. Its essentially the same gearbox on a A6/S6!!!!
Like you say a bit strange |

I think it was gib who mentioned to me that his 5 (present) and 6 speed (deceased) sit at same revs on the motorway |

Bit of a brain freeze when I thought they were the same. No power increases boost comes in at 1900 instead of 2100. I have the tech sheets some where on this. |
