Hi guys,

Long time no post, so hi to everyone here I used to know

Need some help with a mate's A3 2.0 TDI (56 Plate, 170Bhp) which is having an intermittent limp mode. When it occurs, it's usually while pulling away. Goes into limp mode and the glow plug and emissions lights pop up on the dash.

This usually clears after an ignition cycle, and takes the car out of limp mode. The glow plug light goes out, leaving the emissions light on.

VAG-COM sometimes throws up two codes -
P1442 - Exhaust recirc position sensor too high
PO643 - Sensor ref voltage A: signal too low
P2017 - Intake manifold flap position sensor short to B+

We have already replaced the EGR valve with a genuine part a couple of weeks ago, and carried out adaptation with VAG-COM, which cleared some further permanent fault codes which haven't come back, but this intermittent fault is lingering. Car drives fine for a few hundred miles, then does this again.

Any help or experience appreciated, having trouble finding much info about some of these. Seems as though the intake manifold flaps can cause a bit of grief on these?

Cheers,

James
