Me again,

I forgot, I also have a split middle box in the exhaust and need to remedy this. Sad

Front and rear sections are much newer and in VGC.

So can I simply bypass the middle (leaking) box with a straight piece of pipe. Is that box a resonator or a muffler and if I lose the middle box what impact would that have power and noise wise?

Many thanks,

Dave

When I had my stainless steel system made, it was recommended that I retained the centre box as the system apparently becomes quite noisy without it.

Not sure about power as removing the boxes can sometimes result in a loss of performance.

I've done this with a GT 5s and a quat coupe. Makes it nosier but does improve performance a small amount.

Cheers guys,

My local exhaust fabricator wants £30 to weld up a straight tube reckons it will be "loud".

When you say "loud" do you mean offensive loud Evil or Very Mad or pleasant loud Cool

I keep hearing all this stuff about the famous "Audi 5 pot growl" but have not yet experienced this phenomenon and would like to do so Very Happy

As its blowing loudly and down on power I might as well give it a go anyway.

The famous 5 pot growl is induction related, not exhaust. Have a look on www.audiclub.co.uk under articles and see how to midify your airbox. Then you will hear the growl.

Personanaly I would not remove the centre box but that it just my personal view. Remember if too loud you will draw attention to the car from unwanted sources, i.e. Police
