Hi,

In the past week my 1985 urq has started to veer to the left with no warning at all Crying or Very sad .

There is no warning in the steering wheel that this is about to happen but seems to happen when going over any bump!!

I can cure it by putting the car through a full lock or braking hard, nothing wrong with the front bushes and the tracking is OK.

Any ideas??

Ta

Possibly a worn tie rod or tie rod end?
Had a similar thing with my '85 90Q. After doing a journey from the Isle of Man to Plymouth then home to Scotland the tie rod end started to do something similar, eventually ending up coming adrift as I stopped in a car park to check it. It would slip on the tie rod putting the alignment out, then pop back in when you turned the other way, I stress that all this happened in less than a mile and I pulled off the dual carriageway at the nearest opportunity.
Just a possibility but get it checked in case.

Thanks for the advice guys, got the car up on the ramps today to get it check out and had a look at the back end as well this time.

Turns out all the bushes are "totally" gone, if you give the back wheels a good thump the car looks like it's got 4 wheel steer.

Will get the bushes replaced and see if this cures the prob.

Thanks

M

You say veer to the left, this sounds quite violent.I can see that worn bushes may make the car wonder or pullbut now veer. This sounds like something loose or a power steering fault.I had the front subframe work loose on my rally car which gave the same kind of handling problems which were worse under braking.worth a check.

Well thats the steering sorted, needed new tie rods on the back as well back no more wandering all over the road.

I am just off to book the car in for 4 wheel alignment and have just noticed (really Shocked ) that I'm running 55's on the back and 50's on the front.

Will this be buggering up the diffs? and will this affect the alignment when I get it done Crying or Very sad

Thanks

M

It won't do your diffs much good due to the different rolling radius. I would certainly recommend changing them.
