Are exhausts for an UR quattro the same diameter as that for a 90 quattro. I'm pretty sure the URq is 2.5 inch throughout, but not sure about a standard 90q one.
As some serious engine upgrades are on the cards for some time in the future I only wanna have to buy a stainless exhaust once. So should I get a 90q one or will an URq one bolt straight onto the downpipe?
All coments apreciated as usual,

Most Stainless steel exhaust manufacturers will custom make to your own spec |

The ur quattro exhaust is 2.75 in od,which is an odd size. You would be better off getting one made up to fit your car though.Don`t go too big on the bore though as you will slow down the gas speed too much. |

Does anyone know the oe diameter for a 90q exhaust?
As good as some custom made systems can be, i always seem to end up with problems which I've never experienced with off the shelf items. Plus they tend to end up costing quite a bit. Quite fancy a Scorpion system 'cos they produce a nice sound and it's tried and tested, but don't want to have to change it after only a year if the engine mods go ahead!
Conundrum!!!! |

What type of problems did you get with you custom made system? If the system is made and fitted properly you should`nt have any at all.A well made system should be many times better than anything that you can buy off the shelf. All systems made in a jig will pull out of shape when they are welded and spring when the are removed from the jig,so they can never fit as well as a custom system, which can be adjusted before it is finally fitted.Stainless is far worse than mild steel for pulling during welding and if any tension is present after fitting it can crack in a matter of weeks. The best off the shelf stainless systems in terms of fit and quality are magnex, but their range is limited. |

Hello Everyone,
I am having a complete custom made Stainless Steel and the Cat cut out on my 1989 90Q, going to get it fitted in 3 weeks.
I will keep you posted if I encounter any problems after fitting. |

Got round to having mine replaced with a custom jobbie at last. Got it done by Powerflow (bit of a boy racer outfit) but am thoroughly impressed with the service, finish, sound and most of all price. I literally phoned them at 1200 to make some enquiries and by 1700 they had the car back down off of the ramps and sounding lovely. And all for £360!!! That's what I call a bargain. Much better system than my previous experiences with London Stainless Steel. Perhaps they had an off day when they did my '84 Coupe.
Will try and post some pics of my 90q's improved rear end asap. |

One of the problems with power flow is that they are a francise and therefore are only as good as the staff who make them.Any garage can take on a powerflow dealership and they only give the staff 3 days training on how to do the job! THe other problems are that you have to buy all the boxes in from powerflow so you can only use what is on the shelf also they are made from 409 stainless which will go rusty in a few years as it has a high ferous content (try it with a magnet) . Some of the dealers even weld the joints with mild steel wire in the mig welder and then paint over them with silver paint! |

I guess that's why they're cheaper than everywhere else!!! But if they want to give you a warranty for the length of time you own the car then who cares if it doesn't last as long as the rest. They're gonna have to replace it when it starts falling apart. Especially since I intend to hang on to this car for a while.
As for the skill levels of the staff, one can only judge them on the quality of their work. And as far as I can tell it's top notch so far!! |
