Got a bit of a problem closing of the passenger side rear window on my B5 S4. It will go about half way up then stutter and promptly go back down again. To get it to fully close I have to gently nudge it past this point on the drivers switch, then it usually continues to close normally (right clart on when driving!)

That was until this morning when it more or less stuck at the half way point. Many, many, many, many minute nudges on the switch and it finally closed. (My wife drove all the way home from night shift in minus two temps unable to get it to closed so wasn’t too chuffed!) It’s been like this a while but obviously now needs attention!

I’ve changed the motor a while back to no avail. Any other obvious culprits to go at next?

I had trouble a while ago with my drivers window. I had to re-set it. Take a look at this thread
http://www.audifans.net/ftopict-37919-.html
Basically it involved nudging it up until it shut, hold the window in place and then hold the up button for the window for around 5 seconds. It's worked fine since I did that.

Hi – thanks for the info. I tried that very useful tip but watching the window going back up (using the key button to close it) it seems to struggle from about a third of the way up so to about the mid-point so I’m wondering if it’s just something’s too tight and restricting the travel. Once it gets beyond this point it’s ok and at least will close if I grab the top of the glass and pull through this part of the operation!

I’m not sure if there’s a safety mechanism built in that would make to window think it had hit an obstruction and therefore it gets sent back down? Will need to do a proper investigation at the weekend … trouble is last time I had the trim off I couldn’t see anything that could be causing the problem….

Paul there is a safety mechanism which sends the window back down if it meets an obstruction. My car is fitted with wind deflectors and in warm weather they expand a little and this causes the window to fall if you try and close it, a bit of fiddling usually fixes my problem, but you may have something in the window side channels which is causing an obstruction?

Cheers

Cheers Gary - that sounds a lot like the root of my problem. I had hoped to get into the window mechanism this weekend but didnt manage it Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes but will check out that possibility when I do thumbleft
