Audi a6 avaunt ultra MPG

Hi , I bought a new a6 ultra avant a few weeks ago. I've done 2,500 miles in it and it's averaging 42.5 mpg. I realise it is very unlikely to achieve the manufactures claims of 62 mpg. But if the "honest johns real mpg site' is to be believed the bigger engined models are achieving this 42 mpg aswell....

So my question is:

Is this mpg going to improve after the engine has run in a bit more? Or should I have just got a bigger engine and enjoyed more power for the same amount of diesel.....?

What's is everyone else getting?

I assume you've got a 2.0 TDi, which to be honest won't be run in yet, give it a few more 000 miles to loosen up and it should rise, but remember its a big car and if you drive it like you stole it 42 is good lol

I would be interested to hear if it does improve because my 2.4 v6 petrol will do 40 to the gallon on a cruise and I will be chuffed having not forked out the extra for the TDi.

Yes, it the new 2.0 TDI ultra engine claiming 62 MPG. Driving like a nun with plenty of motorway cruising at 70 mph it struggling to beat 47 MPG. Next time i'm on the motorway i'll reset it and set cruise to 55 for a 50 mile run and tell you what i get.

I did it the other day, can't remember what the result was, but i was expecting better........

Hopefully you're right, another couple of thousand miles and it should start rising

I drive the older (2013) 2.0 TDI 177 and noticed an improvement all the way to 10,000 miles so there is hope.

However, the Gov't tests are on a rolling road at 20-30 degrees C. Urban, max 31 mph and average 12 mph. Extra Urban they hit 75 mph once and average 39 mph, all in a lab, no hills, probably no wind resistance either so don't hold your breath. They also tape up the joints and block air intakes. They remove spare tyres and have even been known to remove seats! The only use is to compare models from the same range.

IMHO the 1970s 56 & 75 mph were more useful comparators.

I get 45 mpg in winter and 50 in summer. It's done 20,000. I drive to speed limits but never more (honest guv!). According to my dealer I'm doing "really well".

The Ultra is mainly another iteration of tampering in the lab to improve on paper figures. I imagine there will be little or no real world difference between the 170, 177, 186 or 190ps engines
